Question #1

Which Georgette Heyer novel did you read first? What was your first impression?

My answer: My first Heyer novel was Regency Buck. I remember loving it at the time. I'd never read anything like it before. One of the things I loved about "discovering" Georgette Heyer was learning that she was a family-favorite. I wish my mom had recommended her sooner!

I'd love to hear your answers! You can share your responses in the comment section!

My first Heyer was "The Grand Sophy." I loved the witty, sparkling prose and defty spun plot; it was like a Shakespearean comedy with Regency trappings.

I was and continue to be amazed by Heyer's knack for characterization. By the end of the novel, I could hear each character's voice in my head and predict how they would react to situations.

Every time I picked up the book, I looked forward to seeing what Sophy would do next. I have Heyer to thank for introducing me to Regency romances. I've read several now, when before I never would have looked for a book on the romance shelves.

Mine was the Grand Sophe. I took the book mainly because of the cover design.

The Nonesuch was my first novel of Heyer. I enjoyed the witty style, and her charm but the plot was getting a little boring. But I knew that Heyer had such a huge following for a reason, and continued reading several more =)

My first Heyer was Sylvester or the Wicked Uncle. I was fifteen when I read it and have since read all of them many times over. In fact I own all of them - except the 4 that were never reprinted, and I have read them. She is my absolute go to author when I can't find anything else to read.

The first time I ever came across a georgette heyer was in the year 2000, in a small local library in the city of Chennai in India.

Someone had made a donation of a batch of "old" georgette heyer books to this library.. Most of the books didn't have a front or back cover.. I had absolutely no idea about what to expect when I picked up the book - I didn't even know that it was a "period romance".. There were such few options in our library that I read whatever I could lay my hands on.

The book I first picked up was "powder and patch". I must admit, I found it to be a very difficult read initially.. But as I ploughed through, I was sucked into this world of balls and gowns.. I enjoyed the book immensely and came back for more..
The next book I read was "Faro's daughter", and I was hooked for life. I loved everything about it -the language, the wit, the spunky heroine and arrogant hero - I loved it all..

I went on to read all the GH books I could lay my hands on since then.. and I have thoroughly enjoyed this ride.

My first Heyer was Powder & Patch, because that's the one my mom handed me. I was 11 years old, and it was slow at first, since I didn't know anything about French. That's not the one I would give someone to read first, but I loved it and have read all of them through the years, some many times over.
